"My dream is that every woman, everywhere, will know the joy of a truly safe, comfortable and satisfying birth for herself and her baby." Marie F Mongan - Founder of HypnoBirthing®
What is HypnoBirthing®?
HypnoBirthing® is a philosophy and practice that empowers parents to have a calm, comfortable, relaxed, gentle and natural birth, not just for themselves, but for their baby too.
In the light of recent media attention given to non-attended births (Channel 5, Outlaw Births 9th July 2008), it is important to mention that the HypnoBirthing® programme advocates the prescence of a professional, whether birthing takes place in hospital or at home.
The method was developed by Marie Mongan (who is herself a qualified hypnotherapist) and is based on the concepts of natural birth of an english obstetrician, Dr. Grantly Dick-Read.
The techniques learned, enable the birth experience to be relaxed, calm, comfortable, gentle and enjoyable. The techniques of self-hypnosis, visualisation, relaxation and special breathing are easy to learn and apply, and give mum and her partner the tools and the opportunity to mentally, physically & emotionally prepare for the birth of their baby. In HypnoBirthing® the birth partner plays a key role. They too learn the techniques alongside mum, ensuring they really feel part of the process and that it truly is a 'team effort'.
HypnoBirthing's philosophy embraces the concept that if fear and tension are absent, then a comfortable, natural birth IS possible. And further-more, that womens' bodies are beautifully made for the task!
All too often in our western world, the common perception of childbirth is one where fear and tension and the accompanying expectation of pain persist.
It doesn't have to be this way. HypnoBirthing offers an alternative.
In addition to eliminating the Fear-Tension-Pain syndrome before, during and after birthing, HypnoBirthing can also eliminate or greatly reduce the need for chemical painkillers. The first stage of labour can also be shortened by several hours. The techniques learned can eliminate fatigue during labour and the risk of hyperventilating from "shallow" breathing methods. There is also a simple massage technique to learn that can even reduce the risk of tearing during birth. Post-natal recovery is often faster too.
It can be empowering and allows birthing to be the beautiful, peaceful experience nature always intended.
The HypnoBirthing® course consists of twelve and a half hours tuition, a HypnoBirthing manual, hand-outs and a CD to help with daily practice. The course fee is £375. Travel is included if you live within a 10 mile radius of Taunton. Outside of this area, unless otherwise agreed, mileage is charged at £0.40 / mile. A £50 deposit is required at the time of booking with the full balance payable at the start of the course. (I will always be happy to discuss some flexibility over payment if funding is truly a problem). If this is of interest to you then please email me or call for a no-obligation chat. I am a registered HypnoBirthing® Practitioner and welcome all enquiries.
